শুভ শারদীয়া

Shubho Sharodiya! Warm Durga Puja greetings to you and your family.

As Kolkata welcomes Maa Durga, the mother who holds ten weapons in her ten hands, we begin our journey in her name, with ten hands of our own: ten ways women can move society forward.

The Ten Divine Hands

Maa Durga carries a different strength in each of her ten hands. Our work has ten hands too. Each one is an area where women can lead real change.

আমাদের কথা Who we are

Five women. One shared belief.

Dashapraharanadharini was started in Kolkata by five women who believe that when women work together, a whole society moves forward. We began in Sharadiya Navratri, 2026, and we are at the very start of the journey.

We are not a big institution. We are neighbours, mothers, daughters and professionals who want to put our time and skills to good use, and we would love you to build this with us.

Who we work with: women of every age, girls and students, and families and elders in Kolkata's neighbourhoods.

Questions people ask

Frequently asked questions

How can we improve women's empowerment?
By making sure women have education, an income of their own, good health, safety and a voice in decisions. In practice that means helping girls finish school, teaching skills that earn money, making health care easier to reach, and encouraging women to join local committees and groups. Change lasts when the whole family supports it. We work on all of these through our ten areas of work.
What are the 5 points of women's empowerment?
The United Nations describes five components: women's sense of self-worth; their right to have and to determine choices; their right to have access to opportunities and resources; their right to have the power to control their own lives, both within and outside the home; and their ability to influence the direction of social change, to create a more just social and economic order.
What are the roles of women in our society?
Women play many roles at once: carers and homemakers, earners and entrepreneurs, teachers, health workers, farmers, leaders and voters. In most Indian homes, women also make the daily choices about food, health, money and children's education. When their work is recognised and the unpaid work at home is shared fairly, women can contribute even more to society.
