Why it matters

Why this hand matters

Too many students pick a stream because a friend did, or because of pressure at home. Girls, especially, are often steered away from paths they would love.

The right guidance at the right time, in Class 9, 10 or 12, can change the direction of a whole life.

Please note: Students under 18 take part with a parent's or guardian's consent. Mentoring happens in groups or supervised settings, and every mentor will agree to a code of conduct before starting.

Our aims

What we want to do

  • Career guidance, coaching and mentoring with GCL: education planning and career planning for every student
  • School connect: career talks and guidance sessions in schools and colleges
  • Interest and aptitude discovery, so students choose with self-knowledge
  • Mentorship circles where working women from many fields guide girls in small groups, with parents informed
  • Sessions for parents, so families can support a child's choice
  • Help with scholarships, entrance exams and admission deadlines
  • Exam-stress and confidence workshops
  • Career exposure days: meeting professionals and visiting real workplaces

These are our aims. As each one happens, we will share it here with real photos.

Step by step

How it works

  1. 1

Discover: the student's interests and strengths, through activities and an assessment.

  2. 2

Explore: what each stream, course and career really involves.

  3. 3

Plan: one clear next step, such as a subject choice or an entrance exam.

  4. 4

Follow up: a check-in again before the next big decision.

Questions people ask

Frequently asked questions

What is the right age for career counselling?
The best time is Class 9 or 10, before a student chooses a stream for Class 11. Guidance at this stage helps match subjects to interests and strengths. A second check-in in Class 11 or 12, before choosing a college course, is also useful. It is never too late, though: college students and working adults can benefit from counselling too.
How to give career guidance to students?
Start with the student, not the job market. Understand their interests, strengths and values (an interest or aptitude assessment helps); explain where each stream and course really leads; involve parents in the conversation; connect students with people working in those fields; and help them plan the next concrete step, such as a subject choice or an entrance exam. With our partner GCL, this is how we aim to guide students.
Can ChatGPT give career advice?
AI tools like ChatGPT can explain careers, courses and exams in general terms, and they are useful for exploring ideas. But they do not know a student's abilities, family situation or local options, and their information can be out of date or simply wrong. For a real decision, combine what you read with guidance from a trained career counsellor and from people who work in the field.
